For nearly two decades, Chris Lin has been shaping the landscape of precision motion control in Taiwan. As Head of Electronics Sales & Senior Sales Manager at HEIDENHAIN Taiwan, and a pioneer in introducing ETEL solutions to the local semiconductor market, he combines engineering expertise, customer focus, and team spirit to drive innovation and growth.
Building Partnerships in Taiwan’s Semiconductor and Electronics Markets
When it comes to precision motion control in Taiwan, few names stand out as much as Chris Lin. For 18 years, Chris has been driving the success of ETEL motion control technology in Taiwan, playing a pioneering role in bringing high-end automation expertise into the heart of Asia’s semiconductor industry. “Originally, I applied for a sales position at HEIDENHAIN,” Chris recalls. “At the same time, I heard that ETEL wanted to start business in Taiwan. Since I had already used ETEL torque motors as a mechanical engineer, it felt like the perfect opportunity. I am proud to be a pioneer of ETEL in Taiwan.”
Today, Chris leads a team focused on semiconductor and electronics customers – industries that demand cutting-edge precision and reliability. For him, the essence of sales goes far beyond numbers: “The most beautiful part of the work is when we are selected as a key supplier of high-end machines. Working together with customers to achieve success brings not only good turnover but also true partnership.”
Challenges, however, are never far away in such a fast-moving market. “Swiss-made products are often seen as high-tech and higher-priced. We must prove our value and performance to convince customers. On top of that, the SEMI market constantly pushes for shorter lead times. Thanks to the ETEL team’s hard work, we can meet these market demands and continue to succeed.”

ETEL and HEIDENHAIN – Driving Innovation in Taiwan’s Semiconductor Industry
Taiwan holds a strategic position in the global technology landscape, with its semiconductor industry driving cutting-edge innovation and serving as a critical pillar of the international supply chain.“Equipment suppliers are continuously pursuing higher accuracy. We see a very bright future for the Taiwanese market,” says Chris. Artificial intelligence is one of the strongest drivers of demand: “AI increases the need for advanced semiconductor packaging. Many new players from FPD, LED, and PCB industries are now entering this field – and we are expanding our customer base with them.”
For Chris, innovation is not optional – it’s essential. “HEIDENHAIN and ETEL present new products every year and remain at the leading edge. Together, we can provide turnkey motion control solutions and efficient support. Customers really value this advantage.” He points to one standout example: “The way of using Multi-DOF technology in our stages, integrated with QUIET and controlled by AccurET, is amazing and unique – just like our T project here in Taiwan (VULCANO2 that integrates multi-degree-of-freedom (Multi-DOF) measurement capabilities directly at the tool point, enhancing precision and process control).”

Global Teamwork and Technical Collaboration at ETEL Taiwan
The success of ETEL in Taiwan is, in Chris’s view, a story of teamwork. “We are a good team because we set the target together, everyone plays their role, and in the end we all enjoy the fruitful result.”
Working with colleagues across borders is equally crucial: “We feel technically confident when meeting customers because we know the ETEL team is always there to support us – even if we work across six or seven time zones.”
Beyond Work – Sports, Culture, and Optimism
Outside the world of motion control and precision systems, Chris stays active. “I’ve been playing basketball since junior high school. The competition helps me release pressure and maintain an optimistic attitude.”
He also highlights how Taiwanese culture shapes his approach to business: “People in Taiwan are usually very friendly. For me, it’s easy to communicate with new customers and bring them new ideas.”
And for visitors? “Taiwan has plenty of fruit year-round, fresh seafood, and above all – friendly people. Many say the most beautiful scenery in Taiwan is the people.”

Looking Ahead – Vision and Future Projects
Chris’s outlook is as ambitious as his past. “I am quite excited about these system projects. They are the outcome of many years of investment – and now they are just ready to take off.”
With ETEL motion control technology continuing to evolve and Taiwan’s semiconductor industry reaching new heights, Chris Lin remains a true pioneer – driving innovation, precision, and partnership across every stage of the journey.
